Michael Specter: How Anthony Fauci Became America’s Doctor

An infectious-disease expert’s long crusade against some of humanity’s most virulent threats.

 

"These days, nearly everyone has heard of Anthony Fauci. Pandemic-memorabilia entrepreneurs have put his face on bottle openers, coffee mugs, and bumper stickers: 'In Dr. Fauci we trust.'"

Fauci has run the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for 36 years, through six administrations and numerous epidemics.  He is a member of the Administration’s coronavirus task force and known for his expertise and "plain talk."

Michael Specter (Adjunct Faculty in Stanford Bioengineering and Staff Writer for The New Yorker) has written a historical piece on Anthony Fauci, which takes us from his early years in Brooklyn to how he became who he is today.
