Celebrating the Remarkable DEIB Achievements of the Bioengineering Community
In a world where diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) have become central themes in the quest for a better society, it's incredibly heartwarming to see members of the bioengineering community receiving well-deserved recognition for their efforts in promoting these values.
Wendy Wenderski, a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Deisseroth Lab, and Melanie Hannebelle, a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Prakash Lab, have been honored with the prestigious Stanford Postdoc JEDI Champion Awards. These awards stand as a testament to their unwavering commitment to championing initiatives, activities, and efforts that advance justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion not only at Stanford but also in the broader community. It's a recognition that reflects their dedication to making our academic and scientific spaces more accessible, inclusive, and representative of the rich tapestry of backgrounds and perspectives that define our world.
But the spotlight doesn't end there. Marly LeSene, Program Director, and Olgalydia Winegar, Director of Finance and Operations, have been named IDEAL Honorees. The IDEAL Honor Roll acknowledges the remarkable commitment of Stanford staff in promoting Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access in a Learning Environment. Their leadership, practices, processes, activities, peer support, and initiatives have undoubtedly left a lasting impression on the Stanford community, setting an example for others to follow.
In a world where we're constantly reminded of the challenges we face in achieving a more inclusive and equitable society, it's heartening to see the efforts of individuals and organizations being celebrated. These awards remind us that change is possible, and it is driven by individuals and teams who are committed to making a difference.
Congratulations to all the recipients of these awards, and may their accomplishments inspire us to continue the journey toward a more just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive world.
