Faculty Position Broad Area Search, Department of Bioengineering
The Department of Bioengineering at Stanford University (bioengineering.stanford.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the level of Assistant Professor. Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline.
The search committee consists of diverse faculty from the Schools of Engineering, Medicine, and Humanities & Sciences; we are seeking individuals who are fusing engineering and the physical sciences with biology to promote discovery or invention in any relevant area (e.g., agriculture, art, basic science, biophysics, biotechnology, biocomputation, education, environmental science, materials science, manufacturing, medicine, other). Our faculty are trained not only in bioengineering but also in many diverse disciplines. We are interested in applications from individuals of any discipline who have demonstrated, or provide clear evidence for, their potential to realize outstanding scientific or technical achievements in developing, translating and applying new ideas, tools, or capacities to bioengineering. Ideal candidates should also demonstrate strong communication, teaching, and leadership skills, as well as an ability to contribute actively to a rapidly growing Stanford Department. A sustaining focus of all bioengineering searches is to contribute to departmental diversity. We enthusiastically invite applications from women and underrepresented minority groups. A strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching and advising is also essential. Teaching responsibilities will include participation in and development of both undergraduate and graduate courses, and strong engagement in a core curriculum that serves to define bioengineering for future generations. The supervision of doctoral students and academic advising of trainees at all levels is also expected.
