Bioengineering Funding Priorities

Main content start

Diversity and Inclusion: We are supporting important initiatives and programmatic support around faculty and student recruitment, outreach, and department/university culture.

Biomedical computation: We are strengthening our focus on training students who can translate novel uses of biomedical AI to the real world to improve the lives of patients.

Social Impact Education and Entrepreneurship: We are exploring the potential for a social impact venture fund and educational program for budding bioengineering entrepreneurs and are currently socializing plans for these activities at the university.

Planetary and Human Health: Stanford Bioengineering is a leader in applying the tools of engineering and biology to human health. We are building expertise to use these same tools to address challenges faced in the health of our planet. This focus is strengthened through the recent recruitment of Dr. Jennifer Brophy, a leader at the intersection of synthetic biology and plant biotechnology.

Bio Policy and Leadership in Society (Biopolis): We are looking at how new biotechnologies have broader societal impact by addressing biopolicy and leadership in society, biosecurity, and bioengineering’s intersection with ethics and technology as part of university-wide approach to this subject.
